　　Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should focus more on natural environment and less on economic development. Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.　　你是否同意以下觀點？相對于經(jīng)濟發(fā)展，政府應該更重視自然環(huán)境保護。請用具體的理由和事例來說明。

　　I do not agree with the statement that governments should focus more on the natural environment than economic development. To me, it is clear that both issues are equally important. Economic development is important because so many people are living in poverty; protecting the natural environment is important for people's health and quality of life. Therefore, focusing on either one and neglecting the other will lead to a bad result. As far as I am concerned, the best approach is to focus on both.

　　Most countries focus on economic development because this enables the population of a country to become richer and have better lives, and it makes the country stronger. The problem is that the current form of economic development is destroying the natural environment. For instance, CO2 from fossil fuels is causing global warming, factories are polluting the air and the water, and resources, like oil, are running out. If governments continue to focus on economic development, it will soon be too late to save the environment, and future economic development will be impossible without natural resources.

　　Currently, most governments are pursuing economic growth for short-term gain but they do not see the importance of protecting the environment for long-term economic growth. It is clear then that governments need to focus on both issues equally because they are inextricably linked. The current form of economic development must be changed so that, instead of seeking only short-term profits, governments and corporations look at economic development from a long-term perspective. Governments cannot choose to focus on one or the other because both are vital to future humanity.

　　我不同意相對于經(jīng)濟發(fā)展，政府應該更重視自然環(huán)境保護這一觀點。對我來說，這兩者很明顯是同樣重要的。經(jīng)濟發(fā)展的重要性在于如今還有那么多人過著貧困的生活，而保護自然環(huán)境對人類的健康和生活質(zhì)量意義重大。因此僅重視一方面而忽視另一方面將會導致不良的后果。同時重視經(jīng)濟發(fā)展和環(huán)境保護是的方法。

　　許多國家集中關注經(jīng)濟建設，是因為這使國民變得更加富裕，過上更好的生活，使國家更加強大。問題是如今的經(jīng)濟發(fā)展模式正在破壞自然環(huán)境。例如礦物燃料燃燒釋放的二氧化碳導致了全球溫室效應，工廠正污染著空氣和水，自然資源例如石油也日益減少。如果政府繼續(xù)只關注經(jīng)濟發(fā)展，不久后便會發(fā)現(xiàn)保護環(huán)境為時已晚。而沒有自然資源，未來的經(jīng)濟也將無法發(fā)展。

　　目前，大多政府盲目追求經(jīng)濟的短期增長而忽視了為經(jīng)濟的長期發(fā)展而保護環(huán)境的重要性。政府應該平等地重視經(jīng)濟和環(huán)境問題，因為這兩者是緊緊相連的?，F(xiàn)有的經(jīng)濟發(fā)展模式必須進行改革，政府和企業(yè)需要從長遠角度考慮經(jīng)濟的發(fā)展而非著眼于短期利益。政府不能只關注一方面，因為兩者對人類的未來都是至關重要的。
